Please reach us at contact@cdfjiujitsu.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
CDF Jiu Jitsu is not a "commercial" gym, which some people call "McDojos". That is not us! As a club gym, we are smaller in size with a family feel. While commercial gyms can offer greater amenities and a wide variety of classes, non-commercial club gyms offer a more personalized and community-centered environment.
You can find us at 214 North Main Street in Moscow, Idaho. We are in the Grange building next to Moose Lodge just past the Corner Club. Our main entrance is downstairs just off the parking lot. Look for our banner!
Yes! We have a comfortable waiting area with seating, a restroom, and a play table for younger siblings while you wait.
If you are not sure if a CDF class is right for you or your child, please reach out to use via our Contact Us page to inquire about a free first class.
To participate in Jiu Jitsu classes, a jiu jitsu / judo gi is needed. Jiu Jitsu gis are not the same as karate or tae kwon do gis. Those are much thinner and will rip in jiu jitsu. If you don't have a gi yet, wear comfortable athletic clothes to class, while you wait for your gi to arrive.
Don't forget to bring a water bottle to class too! We work hard and you will get thirsty!
The easiest place to purchase a kids gi is from Amazon. Elite is a quality brand for a good price. A kid's gi will run you about $45.00. We prefer white, black, or blue gis. Gi sizing charts for kids go by height and weight. Use the sizing chart for that specific brand to guide you.
We do not offer any no gi specific classes, but we do practice no gi at the discretion of the instructor. All members are required to come to class with gi.
The minimum age to join our Kids jiu jitsu classes is 7 years old. Even at 7 years old, we may ask students to wait another year if their physical and/or emotional abilities are not yet mature enough for our classes. Being physically and emotionally ready is essential for the safety and progress of the rest of the group.
Our club welcomes both genders. Our self-defense classes are gender specific but women and girls are welcome to join our mixed Jiu Jitsu classes. Learning techniques against a larger, stronger opponent is especially beneficial for females. In addition to being great for fitness, jiu jitsu and self defense can benefit everyone.
Belt promotions vary from school to school. Commercial gyms typically promote faster than we do. Belts will be earned by investing time on the mat, and a dedication to developing the quality of your jiu jitsu. Belts are awarded when a student has demonstrated the disposition and mastery of concepts required for each belt. Some belt promotions can take years to achieve. We don't rush belts!
Following the rules of mat etiquette helps to ensure that all students can get the most out of their training experience. Please see our House Rules page for the specifics on mat etiquette.
Yes. Our club strives to maintain an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. In our kids classes, students who repeatedly fail to control disruptive or unsafe behavior after redirections may be asked to withdraw from our group program. Parents will be notified if their child is at risk for a revoked membership. Adults may be asked to withdraw if there are any concerns about the safety of the person to self or others. Respect and appropriate conduct are expected from all club members and families regardless of age.
Due to limited spots available, your membership could be replaced by someone on our wait list if you pause or allow your membership to lapse. We are not able to hold spots for travel or long breaks.
